Here are some Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
If you’re here it means you’ve already taken that critical step. Thats a big deal - you’re already moving in the right direction. Keep that momentum going and either email me to schedule an appointment or a free 15 minute video consultation. If you have questions, questions that need answering, contact me below. Since I’m a virtual therapist, I’m practically glued to my computer screens, and can get back to you right away.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
I’m glad you’re attending to this because research tells us this is the most important factor in determining preferred therapeutic outcomes.
In other words, the therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor in your success: Do I get you? Do you get me? Are we effective teammates?
Trust your gut here. Don’t force it. Contact me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation and lets get a sense of one another - you’ll know right away whether this is your cup of tea (coffee is better, tea is leaf water).
Do you offer virtual and in-person sessions?
I am a virtual only therapist, and I’ve gotten pretty good at this thing.
Emerging research discussing the benefits of in-person vs virtual therapy suggests that, for the right fit, virtual therapy is just as effective (or more effective in some cases) than in-person therapy. In fact, virtual therapy can be useful in getting folks help who might not seek, or be able to attend, in person therapy. Some major benefits include being able to see me while comfortable in your home with your dog and a cup of your favorite home beverage, on a walk (get those steps in), even see me from your car on your lunch break or while traveling to see your in-laws and need a break. Skip the traffic, skip parking, stick to sweats and convenience.

What if I'm not a man or don't identify as male?
That's totally ok. Frankly, if you’ve ever been in a relationship or connected to men in any kind of romantic, professional, parental, familial, or other way, I can help. Gender exists on a spectrum, can change, and is only one feature of our complex makeup as humans.
Is maleness the only thing we talk about? Of course not! In fact it may not even get any airtime if it's not important to our work. This feature of my work is more about connecting, feeling seen, relating, highlighting invisible discourses, and speaking the same language than it is about exclusion or othering. I can certainly understand how a male-facing therapist would seem off-putting to someone who doesn’t identify that way. If you're interested in finding out, contact me and let's have a chat, and you can make the determination for yourself if my approach is right for you.
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions cost $175 per 50 minute session. I do offer collaborative sliding scale fees - if needed let’s talk.
Do you take insurance?
No, I don't take insurance. Insurance imposes rigid guidelines around diagnoses and the type(s) of therapy we can explore.
Because I don't report to insurance providers that means we have the flexibility to work together as often as we need to, for as long as we need to, without limiting the type of therapy, and as a result we universally get better outcomes.
Additionally, it means that you can get in to see me much sooner than an in-network therapist. Like months sooner.
If your insurance provider reimburses for out-of-network therapy, I can provide you with a Superbill, which is an itemized list of treatment that can be submitted for reimbursement. You can read more about what a Superbill is, and how to submit one here: https://www.goodrx.com/insurance/health-insurance/superbill-therapy
How long does it all take? How many sessions?
This is a great question - it means you want results and you’re motivated for change.
The answer is, it depends.
My goal is to work so effectively and efficiently with you as possible that sessions are no longer needed. In short, I want to work myself out of a job! If you’re not seeing results, noticing change, or getting what you want, we need to collaborate to determine if we need to change it up in session or refer you to another clinician who can better meet your needs.
In my experience, the most successful outcomes for most folks come from you committing to 3 or 4 meetings. Thats the threshold where a ton of learning and insight can happen. If after that time you don’t feel this is a good use of your time and effort, thats the point where we pivot or mutually part ways.
Understandably, lots of people want immediate solutions because of course people do. I've found that the quickest impact happens when we meet regularly ad a purposeful clip (usually 1x per week or every-other week).
After we establish our relationship and make magic together, its quite common to start spacing our sessions out so that you have more time to implement change, perhaps to 2x per month or 1x per month, and eventually, a-la-carte as needed sessions.
